The Adjunct Instructor at the Mississippi State Fire Academy serves as a contracted instructor supporting various fire service training programs. This role involves delivering instruction, evaluating student performance, and ensuring the highest standards of firefighter education and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with on-campus courses, providing instruction and hands-on training.
- Teach county or regional fire schools, ensuring students receive quality education in fire service topics.
- Deliver specially-endorsed National Fire Academy (NFA) courses as assigned.
- Proctor or observe written and skills-based examinations to assess competency and certification readiness.
- Maintain a professional and safety-focused learning environment while adhering to academy policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with academy staff and fellow instructors to enhance training effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must have completed NFPA 1041-1, Fire Instructor.
- Applicant must have been in the fire service for a minimum of 3 years, volunteer or career service. (This may be a combination of the two.)
- Applicant must have a minimum of 1-year instructional experience outside or within the applicant’s own department.

You will receive a confirmation email once your form is submitted and will receive periodic updates. The entire application/contract process could take 3 – 4 weeks.
