Description The Mississippi Executive Fire Officer Program (MEFO) is a joint initiative between the Mississippi State Fire Academy and the Mississippi Emergency Service Degree Program at Meridian Community College. This comprehensive course is designed to provide senior officers and others in key leadership roles with an understanding of advanced fire service management and administrative skills as well as the ability to conduct research, analyze data, and develop solutions to complex issues. Candidates will enhance their professional development through completion of the NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III and IV certification course and two associate degree equivalent courses. The MEFO program spans one year and includes four three-day sessions conducted at the Academy. MEFO candidates must complete an Applied Research Project (ARP) that relates to their organization before attending the last session of the course. Completion of the ARP is a prerequisite for participating in the last course session and a requirement for graduation. MEFO graduates will receive state credentials and recognition as an Executive Fire Officer along with certifications for Fire Officer Level III and IV. In addition, MEFO graduates will receive six-hours of college credit through Meridian Community College towards completion of an A. A. S. degree in Fire Protection Technology.
